 It
is a well known fact that more than 25% of patients
seen by family physicians have some diagnosable
mental disorder/illness. This view is also endorsed
by a recent WHO study. We need to be conscious
of the fact that family physicians have not been
adequately trained in psychology during their
study course. The family physicians are also not
in a position to spend adequate time with the
disturbed or psychologically/emotionally ill patients and their
families, as they have to treat many others with
different physical illnesses. Moreover, the myths, misconceptions
and superstitions prevailing in the community
about mental health make the task more difficult.
The burden of mental illness on health
and productivity in India and throughout
the world has long been underestimated. Data developed
by the massive Global Burden of Disease
study conducted by the World Health
Organization, the World Bank, and Harvard University,
reveal that mental illness, including suicide,
ranks second, (after all
cardiovascular conditions put together), i.e., accounts
for over 15 percent of the burden of disease in
established market economies, such as the United
States. This is more than the disease burden caused
by all cancers.
My
Mission As a practicing
psychologist/psychotherapist and hypnotherapist, it is my endeavor
to help maximum patients as well as general people
to get rid of mental disturbances, especially,
depression, addiction, anxiety/fear, sexual
problem and high stress/tension of modern life.
This in turn will make them
peaceful, mentally healthy and thereby happy.
Improved mental health, eventually leads to improved
physical health.
In short my mission in life is to Help people
the world over to be Happy and Healthy!
